Horsham District are already embracing the National Scout transformation plan and trying to get ahead of it. You may be aware of these changes to team structures and there’s a team for everyone in our new structure. To find your perfect match, have a chat with your Team Leader or Lead Volunteer to discuss what you’re great at and what you enjoy doing at Scouts. These simple descriptions of some of our teams will help you find the perfect one that matches your skills and interests. Whatever your background, identity or ability, there’s a volunteer spot with your name on it.
Programme Team
The District Programme Team helps every section in the District run a safe, enjoyable and quality programme. To help do this, they bring Section Team volunteers together with activity experts. Programme Team Members don’t need to support a specific Section. Typically this is for people who are interested in
- Helping other volunteers with any programme changes, such as new badges and activities, or young people achieve their Top Awards.
- Supporting Adventurous activities, Nights Away and international trips and activities.
- Organising events for the District and make sure they’re accessible to all young people and programme networking opportunities:
Support Team
The District Support Team support Scouts locally by engaging with the Horsham community by
- Developing relationships with other organisations and help create a positive image of Scouting in Horsham.
- Work with and other teams to help open new sections or groups within Horsham.
- Help with finance – this could be book keeping against the budget or planing and running fundraising events, gift aid or grant applications.
- Technology and Social Media – Help support and develop our use of technology to support Scouting in Horsham through our website, Office 365 and other social media channels.
- Look after joining enquiries across the District and help Section Teams understand any additional needs of young people joining Scouts.
- Bookings, maintenance and development of the District Campsite.
Volunteering Development Team
The District Volunteering Development Team makes sure all volunteers in their District have a positive and enjoyable volunteering experience. In Horsham, they will make it easy for people to join and learn new skills by a team who
- Attracts and welcome new volunteers to District and Group teams
- Make sure volunteers are well supported.
- Helps volunteers and Young Leaders find and engage in opportunities for learning and development.
- Recognise and appreciate volunteers for their brilliant work, formally and informally.
14-24 Team
The 14–24 Team helps all volunteers in Explorer, Young Leader, and Scout Network Section Teams. They help Section Teams plan and deliver great programmes for young people and supports Explorers, Young Leaders, and Scout Network Section Teams by making sure:
- The views and ideas of young people shape decisions in the 14–24 Team and its Sections.
- Section Teams help young people feel welcome and included, and make changes (when needed) so the environment and activities are accessible for everyone.
- We meet the needs of 14–24 year olds through the Explorer or Scout Network programme, and creating opportunities to volunteer as a Young Leader.
Do you want to get involved?
Our ask for all is to consider the new District teams structure to see where you feel you would be happiest to volunteer moving forward. This gives you a great opportunity to redefine your role; maybe this means changing what you have done for many years, but always wanted to try something new or have an interest, hobby or just up for a new challenge, or, of course, just carry on volunteering the same way you do today, just in a different overall structure.
