Rover Award for Community Service 2020

Date: 8th Nov 2020 Author: Sal Dartnell

This is a new District award which will be presented annually for a project or activity which has demonstrated community impact.

The first recipients of the Rover Community Award were the Rudgwick Covid Visor Team who were made up of many local scouters and scouts (not all from Rudgwick) who funded, made and distributed over 2000 PPE visors.

The Award was donated and presented by Peter Dawes, Vice President of British Scouting Overseas and previous District Commissioner.  Peter and Sal Dartnell, current District Commissioner, presented the award at a recent Troop night.

The Community Award will be presented every year by the current Award holders to another district group/pack/ unit/colony/troop team for a community activity or project.  We know all of you are involved in a wide range of community activities which are part of our core scouting values. Please do tell us about them so that we can share and inspire others.

Pictured are just a few of the covid team (we couldn’t get the all together for a single presentation for covid restriction reasons) Si Brew (Rudgwick Troop SL), Andy Huckle (ADC Scouts and ASL at Ifold Troop), Debbie Dononvan (ASL Rudgwick Troop and Local GP), Di Tomms (SA Rudgwick) as well as some of the scouts who made  messages of support for front line workers and patients.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
