Chris ‘Wordy’ Sturdy’s Challenge

SCOUT. Is twenty one points on a triple word score, but probably not the best use of your S in a game of scrabble. Chris ‘Wordy’ Sturdy, deputy district commissioner of Horsham Scouts needs you.

From 10am Saturday 2nd of July until 10am on the Sunday, Chris will be at Horsham District Scouts Headquarters in Bishopric.

He is challenging any age or ability to play him in a Scrabblathon, hoping to play 100 games in 24 hours in aid of raising awareness and hopefully £1000 plus for Alzheimer’s Society. But he needs more people to sign up for a game. Alzheimer’s is a disease that touches many families and there is still so much unknown about it. This is a great opportunity for scouting to get involved and support this charity.

Chris said “I thought it was time to turn my mental agility to something that is also close to my heart – namely tackling dementia. A close family friend of mine passed away in January last year and I know how much dementia can impact on family and friends. Along with my heroes Terry Pratchett and Tony Robinson, I want to find a way to support people with dementia as best we can and also to help solve the problem for the future through research.”

So if you fancy pitting your words and your wits against Chris (suggested donation of £5 per game), email him at chris@wordysturdy.net to book a time slot or visit his websitewww.wordysturdy.net for more details. There will also be a raffle, cake sale, Dementia Friends session as well as other prizes. If playing with words isn’t your thing, then come along and support Chris as he spends 24 hours playing Scrabble with one or more people. You can also donate by going to  www.justgiving.com/wordysturdy or text WORD74 £5 to 70070.
